The constructed storm pond in Hotchkiss is a centrepiece of the community. This massive 40 acre wetland and natural area is encircled by a 2km pathway system, with 600 poplar and aspen trees, and thousands of willows and native aquatic plants harvested and planted to provide habitat for wildlife.
The timber boardwalk/lookout pier on screw pile foundations will be built this winter to connect to the pathway system. This will complete the experience with artistic bird blinds to sit out over the water and watch nature in action. All of this ties into the community and backyards, as well as the new park and playground on the east side.
Hotchkiss is a fast-growing community in the southeast, popular for its easy access onto the ring road as well as a quick escape west to the mountains.
