Civil & Earthworks
Building infrastructure and facilities that make things work.
Wilco quietly completes a wide variety of civil projects. This includes things like mass excavation and area grading – moving a million cubic metres with precision grading. It also includes deep utility installation, installing major storm networks on the ring road, building complete storm pond facilities, and working in urban locations to upgrade infrastructure. Wilco can often be found working in landfills, building storage cells, installing geosynthetic liners or other unique scopes of work. The recent work completed for the Green Line LRT in Calgary shows Wilco’s capability to complete large volumes of earthworks in the most professional and practical manner, making difficult things seem simple. Our fleet of CAT equipment including 627s, 45 tonne rock trucks, and large excavation tools, paired with our top of the line survey and positioning technology help us complete any task of any scale effectively and efficiently.
Landscape Development
Developing green spaces across western Canada
Wilco planted over 7,000 caliper trees in Calgary alone during the 2023 season, that’s basically a full truckload everyday for 6 months straight. Landscaping is a huge portion of our business and is often a component of most projects that we work on. We pride ourselves in helping the developer clients we work with market their communities by building their parks and greenspaces quickly and efficiently, meeting key deadlines to help push sales. A professionally landscaped development draws much more homebuyer interest, and this is front of mind for us in every project we complete. Our efficiency and capability is what sets us apart from our competition, and we are proud to team up with many developers, municipalities, and general contractor partners to complete their projects.
Flood Mitigation
Putting our experience and capability to work.
Wilco has been working along rivers and waterbodies for decades, improving our resiliency towards future floods. Our project teams have experience working instream in a number of situations and with several bodies of water including; the Bow, the Elbow, the Red Deer River, Kananaskis River, Fish Creek, Nose Creek, and a range of mountain and prairie lakes and ponds. Each project teaches us something about how to work with water, how to manage construction in complex and challenging situations, and how to improve our methods and processes. These projects have included major works like the $25 million Bragg Creek Flood Mitigation package, and also smaller shorter term jobs. Wilco’s ability to complete both the civil scopes and landscaping/restoration/bioengineering scopes in-house allow us to keep all elements of the project as a priority.
Sports & Recreation
Wilco has a long history of building sports facilities throughout western Canada.
Wilco has a long history of building sports facilities in the Calgary region. These include things like synthetic sports fields, natural turf sports fields, hockey rinks, tennis and basketball courts, bike parks, skateboard parks, rubberized track and field surfaces, and more. The addition of synthetic fields to many communities helps to extend the playing season in our climate, and increases recreational opportunities for clubs and schools. Wilco takes on projects of all scopes and sizes, including simple tasks like building and maintaining outdoor skating rinks through the winter months.
Golf Construction
Building golf courses to the highest standards.
Wilco continues to add to our golf course work experience, completing renovations at existing mature clubs like Springbank Links and Bearspaw Golf and Country Club in 2023. These include bunker renovations, tee box reconstruction, building and renovating putting greens, drainage and grading improvements and more. Often these renovation projects are completed in the off-season, November – March to minimize impacts to golf course operations. The recent work at Maple Ridge Golf Course, Mickelson National Golf Course (MNGC), Heritage Launchpad and Mickelson Launchpad show off Wilco’s versatility and skillset. Our staff are experienced with all aspects of golf construction and when combined with our depth of heavy equipment resources and civil/landscape construction background, Wilco is the preferred golf partner in the industry.
Fencing & Structures
Constructing bridges, walls, boardwalks, docks: anything you can imagine from concrete, timber, steel and rock.
Wilco’s project teams take on unique challenges every year, whether it’s constructing cast-in-place structures and walls with our concrete crews, building boardwalks and docks with our skilled carpenters, or teaming up with specialized subcontractors for things like steel fabrication or timber frame buildings. Wilco has the experience and creativity to make these project designs a reality.
